FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RUNNING THROUGH THE PINES TOGETHER
The 37th Annual Run Through the Pines will be held on Saturday, August 6th, and it will include a 10K, 5K, and 2 Kids Fun Runs for ages 3-5 and 6-10 years old. The Run Through the Pines is one of the oldest runs in Southern California, and every year it brings people together to the quaint family-oriented mountain community of Crestline.
This year, coming from Fort Worth, Texas is Brenda Zylla. Brenda has been a runner for 10 years and has completed 3 full marathons, 45 half marathons, and countless 5Ks. In an email to the Park District she stated, “At the age of 43 I ran my first 5K and then I was hooked. If you’re not a runner you just don’t get it. My sisters use to think I was silly that I did all that running. Until I ran a half marathon and my sisters were able to track me on their phones. I think I inspired them to begin walking. We all know what walking turns into. Yes, they started running.”
Brenda, along with her twin sisters Carla Rayes and Marla Dryke, both Crestline residents, will be running in the 37th Annual Run Through the Pines for the first time and this will be their first run all together. The sisters were born in Pennsylvania and one by one moved to the Crestline area. A new job and marriage to a Navy Seabee moved Brenda all over Southern California. She even lived in Guam during her husband’s last years of service there. Now retired and residing in Texas she explained that once she moved off the mountain her relationship with her sisters wasn’t as close as it once was. “Last year I planned my first trip back to CA since our retirement move to TX. The race last year was actually the day we left and my sisters were doing their run around the lake, which they do all the time. Soon they realized a race had started. They called me all excited and told me they stood and watched and cheered all the runners. It was that moment I decided to return to Crestline this year and run that race with my sisters.”
Brenda’s sisters will be celebrating their 60th birthday a few days before the race and this will be their very first 5K. She explained that running brought her sisters and her back together and they are closer than they have ever been. In an email written to Bob Kinzel, Run Director, Brenda states, “You have no idea how excited I am about this race. My entire vacation is wrapped around this race. A memory we will remember forever.”

The runners will also receive a free Snow Valley Day Pass for the 2016/2017 season.
